We’ve been back from the Bahamas for one week now and I’ve finally made time to grab my laptop and tell you all about it! But first, a little known fact about me! I am part Bahamian. My dad’s family is from Long Island, Bahamas. Both of my paternal grandparents were born there. We were last in the Bahamas for my niece’s birthday in October 2022 where we stayed at Atlantis. We had a blast and, with the water park and aquarium, Atlantis is a great place for families.
Where We Stayed
This time around, in celebration of my sister’s 40th birthday, we opted for Goldwynn Resort and Residences. This was a special trip, because it was our first vacation with all of my siblings and our spouses. We all agreed that this resort was a real treat! It’s on the beach and boasts a beautiful infinity pool that looks like it’s flowing into the ocean. For me, this alone is enough to secure a repeat visit. We can’t wait to go back!

But wait, it gets better! We booked the Gold Terrace Studio and it was perfect. I’m still trying to figure out how the blinds were set to automatically open the moment we first entered the room. Seriously, it only did it on cue the first time. From there, we were able to control the blinds and the curtains from a smart device on the wall. The room itself was impressive. We had a kitchenette that you could actually cook in – pots, glasses and mugs, coffee machine, and more. We had ample storage space for our clothes, a sitting area with two sofas, a dining table, and an oversized balcony complete with outdoor furniture. 10 out of 10.
Everyone who worked there was so friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed the restaurant (called OIA) with its beautiful outdoor terrace, the bar (both indoor and outdoor), and plenty of time lounging at the pool and beach. We even got to experience the live pianist. I can’t say enough great things about this resort. It’s a short ride from the airport (14 minutes). We ordered car service from the resort, which was nice. Goldwynn is quiet when compared to more lively, larger hotels, like Atlantis. I prefer quiet and to venture out when I want more activity. Like staying in the suburbs and occasionally going downtown – that’s my vibe!

For nights out, we visited Baha Mar. Transportation there was $20 or $25 (depending on the driver) for the first two passengers, plus $5 for each additional passenger. It’s about 10 minutes from GoldWynn. Baha Mar consists of multiple hotels – Grand Hyatt, SLS, and Rosewood. There’s plenty to do there, including restaurants, nightlife, casino, and shopping. Here are the places we checked out at Baha Mar:
- Manor Bar. Specialty cocktails that we loved. Live music that kept us entertained until the bar closed. Great service. Get there early if you want a seat. It’s popular for good reason!
- Costa. The place itself is beautiful. We sat outside over the koi pond. The food, however, was mediocre at best. We will visit again for the ambiance, but only for drinks.
- The Swimming Pig Gastropub. Great spot for late night food. TVs showing all the games. Cool decor.
- Skybar. Put this at the top of your list if you’re looking to go out in Nassau! Views, music, cocktails, ambiance – all great.
- Monkey Bar. This is like a party in the lobby, down below Skybar. Great vibes without a cover.
Random noteworthy mentions: (1) On the Edge at The Fish Fry was one of the best meals we had. It is nothing fancy. Just freshly cooked island food that you’ll love. (2) Nesbitt’s is the place to go for an authentic Bahamian breakfast. Our driver said he eats there whenever his wife doesn’t cook!
This trip was just what we needed to relax, recharge, and refocus. The proof is that I’m writing again! Oh and my husband and I agree that of all the islands we’ve been to, Bahamians are the friendliest and most welcoming. And ya’ll already know they make the best conch fritters! Have you been to the Bahamas? If so, what was your favorite part? Let me know in the comments!
